Regular Time in Community

Posted by Josh Mahler on

We didn't know anyone when my wife and I moved to Colorado 10 years ago. We didn't have any family or friends in the area so it was pretty daunting to start a new life here all alone. We knew we had to get connected and we knew we needed to find community. We quickly got involved in a community group here at Eastern Hills and it was such a needed blessing during that time. Not only did we have friends to hang out with, but we had people to talk about and experience phases of life together.

My wife, Summer, developed a serious form of HELLP syndrome when delivering our first child, Jack, 3 years ago and almost didn't make it through childbirth. Summer was in the hospital for a week and Jack was in the NICU for 10 days. I can't even begin to imagine what that time would have been like or felt like without our community of friends. People were constantly bringing us food, hanging out with Summer so I could be with Jack, and even just listening while we expressed our fears and frustrations.

Proverbs 17:17 says "A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity." We have seen this and felt this first hand.

So whether it's joining a community group or checking out a men's or women's group, find a place to get connected. Find a place to get community.
